I just got this crazy ass email from this 26 year old film writer earlier today. This is so "WTF!?!?!" That I have to post the email here for pure Lulz. This can't be true. If it is, then this guys is insane. Not only that, but his last name have the word, "laugh" in it, making it painfully obvious that this is a joke. Here it is, try not to laugh TOO hard:
"Hey Kiley,
My name is Tom Laughlin and I’m a young screenwriter trying to get two films made right out of film school here in Utah, and recently just married. I’ve been working very hard on these two suspense thriller scripts and have made some industry contacts, semi-interested in the projects. Right now, before I ramble, I just wanted to express my thanks for your artwork and influence in my screenwriting. I draw from influences in art as well as on the screen and wanted to thank you for your art and it’s influence that it has had on these two projects. I’m currently looking for help with chicken scratch sketches, rough sketches, storyboards, or any form of visual art interpretation of the either “Children of the Genocide” or a revamped gothic/serial killer version of the “Wizard of Oz” – which you have exceptionally influenced me with in your art as well. “Children of the Genocide” is a wild ride along with three FBI agents investigating the governments illegal genetics experiments with newborn babies and serial killer DNA… as they strive to engineer the perfect serial killer for research purposes, but things get out of control… “Wizard of Oz” is another wild ride as the gothic world of the Emerald City brings a black pit bull (Toto) and Dorothy to search for her goth boy friend Wizland, as they are brought together with the help of three of FBI’s most wanted serial killers on the loose: the “Tinman”, “Scarecrow”, and the “Lion”… Will they accomplish the impossible and bring her to redemption? During the process of writing the scripts, I drew from your art as well as listening to Evanescence and Linkyn Park. I also love and admire and aspire to do work like Tim Burton and David Fincher’s film “Seven”. I also love “Gothica”, “Sleepy Hollow”, “Underworld” and other serial killer, suspense thriller, gothic-suspense films. It would be an honor and a humble privilege to have you read the scripts and see if anything calls to you or moves you to want to contribute any artistic talents to the films early pre-production process. I’m just in need of any sort of sketches or concept art of any sort if you have the chance. I can’t pay anything at this point, but I can say that your work will be seen by industry professionals, filmmakers, and be used for the film’s style and design. As far as the work load or what scenes you want to do, that’s up to you, in all appreciation, I thank you for your time and talent, and hope we can do some work together. Again, thanks for the art and the influence."
And my response was:
Dear Tom,
................ ......................
Are you insane?
You are asking a 17 year old girl for art (who in the first place can't draw for crap) for your screen play, as if she draws as good as R. Crumb or Vaughn Bode. Not to be rude, but you have to go somewhere else for artwork. You know...SOMEONE WITH ACTUAL TALENT! I mean, I still can't draw prospective right, I have anatomy problems, and my art tools suck. I mean, I don't even have a real style! Seriously, there are better artists out there, ask them. And besides, if I draw for you, you will be awfully disappointed. Not just because I can't draw, but that I am extremely lazy.
KH."
My god, "Tom", if you're going to try and prank me, try to make it believably. By-the-way, thanks for the Lulz! |
